You've invested thousands in hardware, optimized your power consumption, and monitor your miners day and night. But have you thought about the security of your payouts?
Nothing is worse than mining for months, only to find that a hacker has emptied your wallet or redirected your hashrate.
Here is your checklist for maximum security.
1. The Right Payout Address (Wallet)
The most common mistake happens right at the start.
- No Exchange Wallets for Mining: Don't have your mining earnings paid out directly to an exchange (like Binance or Coinbase). If the exchange gets hacked or freezes your account, your coins are gone.
- Use Cold Storage: The safest method is a hardware wallet (e.g., Ledger or Trezor). There, the private keys belong to you. Enter this address in your Gokby dashboard.
- Check the Address: Malware on your PC can manipulate the clipboard (Clipboard Hijacking). When you copy and paste an address, always check the first and last 4 characters!
2. Secure Your Pool Account
Your account at Gokby is the control center.
- Strong Password: Do not use a password that you also use for your email account or Facebook.
- 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication): Absolutely enable 2FA (e.g., with Google Authenticator). Even if someone steals your password, they cannot change the payout address or withdraw money without your phone. This is the most important protection of all!
3. Protect Your Network (Miner Security)
Your ASIC miners themselves can be attacked too.
- Change the Default Password: Every miner is shipped with User
rootand Passwordroot. Change this immediately! If malware gets into your network, it scans for devices with these default passwords and installs viruses that mine for someone else. - No Port Forwarding: Your miner should never be directly accessible from the internet. Do not open ports in the router for the miner's web interface. If you want to access it remotely, use a VPN.
4. Email Security
Often, hackers don't break into the pool, but into your email inbox. If they have access to your email, they can request a "Password Reset" at Gokby.
- Secure your email account with 2FA as well.
Conclusion
Security in mining is not a one-time setup, but a process. Take 10 minutes today:
- Enable 2FA at Gokby.
- Check your payout address.
- Change your miners' passwords.
It is better to be paranoid than broke. Your mined Bitcoins are valuable—treat them that way!
